“Sanctuary” captures portraits of orangutans living in sanctuaries - some rehabilitated for future release, while others remain in care due to health issues or challenges related to reintroduction. My time in Southeast Asia, particularly on Borneo, allowed me to photograph these extraordinary orangutans. Many of the orangutans I encountered were semi-wild, having been rescued from threats such as deforestation, poaching, or the illegal pet trade. They navigate the forest with a mix of freedom and vulnerability. Through these portraits, I aim to highlight their unique personalities and raise awareness about the critical conservation efforts needed to protect them and their fragile habitats.
